Heart Attack on Fishing Trip is Fatal to Lakin
Stricken While He’s at Okoboji with FriendsFloyd Lakin, 50, Estherville, died at his home Monday [October 30, 1944] night following a sudden heart attack suffered while fishing Monday night at Okoboji.
Lakin was fishing with several friends at Okoboji when he became suddenly ill from a heart attack. His friends brought him to his home in Estherville where he died shortly afterwards. Friends report that Lakin had complained of being ill Sunday but thought it was nothing serious.
Floyd William Lakin was born May 8, 1894, at Ellsworth, Ia., where he attended school. During World War I Lakin was a member of the armed forces and joined the American Legion upon his return to civilian life.
He was married to Lena Meeks July 18, 1917. They have one child, Arlene.
He is a member of the Methodist church.
Mr. Lakin was preceded in death by his father and a sister. He is survived by is widow, his daughter, who is Mrs. Wilson Towell, one grandson; and his mother who for the past number of years has made her home with the Laken family. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, November 2, 1944)
