Warren Pullen Passes Away
Another of Our Highly Respected Pioneer Citizens Answers Call
Eleven Years County Sheriff
At the Time of His Death He Was a Member of the County Board of Supervisors
Warren J. Pullen, another pioneer and highly respected citizen of this county, passed away at his home on North Sixth street on Sunday last. Mr. Pullen was so well and favorably known here that he was known by everyone as “Warren” and was so greeted by his friends. He was born at Hartford, Wis., August 17, 1858, and resided there for three years when his parents moved to Easton, Wis. From that point they moved to this city in the year 1869 and have always resided here. There were but a few people here when they arrived and from the fact that Mr. Pullen has been in active political affairs in the county he was one of the best known men here. For eleven years the voters of the county honored him with the office of county sheriff. He was as sheriff not only well known here but well known over the state as the man who brought law violators to justice. Only recently he was elected to the office of county supervisor from this district by a very complimentary vote.

For the past two years Mr. Pullen has been in failing health. The war work was hard on him and the fact that he had three sons in the service was telling on his nervous system. It seems the relax from the activities of war times told on his already broken system. Mr. Pullen was a man of many friends. He had one most excellent habit and that was one which made him close friends. You never had to ask Warren a second time on where he stood on any public matters. He had well formed opinions on public questions and had no fear in expressing them although he was never forward in advancing them. Mr. Pullen was a man of exceptional habits and a gentleman in very respect.

The funeral services were held on Tuesday morning, the Rev. Voorhies officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the East Side cemetery.

The Pullen family have the sympathy of the residents of the entire county in this their hour of grief. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, July 9, 1919)

W. J. Pullen Passes Away
Pioneer and Most Highly Respected Citizen
Member of Board of Supervisors
Was for Several Years Sheriff of Emmet County – Also Deputy Fish Commissioner for Number of Years
Warren J. Pullen passed away at his home in this city on Ninth street early Sunday morning of dropsy and complications after an illness of several weeks. Although death was not unexpected it came as a great shock to the community.

Deceased was one of the county’s most highly respected and best beloved citizens. At the time of his death he was a member of the county board of supervisors, having been elected last fall.

For several years he served as sheriff of Emmet county and later was deputy fish commissioner. In every instance he proved himself a capable and worthy official and true to the trust bestowed in him. As a private citizen he was generous to a fault, kind hearted and conscientious, and honorable in all of this transactions, and honorable in all of his transactions. He was every inch a man.

Warren Jasper Pullen was born in Hartford, Wisconsin, on the 17th of August, 1858. His parents came to New York from Dounham, England, and lived for several years in Hartford, moving from there to Emmet county in 1869, where Warren Pullen has since made his home. For fifty years he has been one of the best citizens that a town could have and his life has been a good influence upon the lives of many.

In 1883 he married Helen Godfrey and to this union were born six children, all of whom survive him. They re Mrs. George Brailey of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Mrs. Fred Albertson, Horace, Fay, Don and Percy Pullen of this city.

Mr. Pullen had been ill for some time suffering with Bright’s disease. For the past six weeks he had been confined to his bed, but his friends and relatives hoped that this illness would soon pass as the others did, but God willed it otherwise and on the 6th of July, 1919, Warren Jasper Pullen passed on to the other side.

The funeral services were held at the home July 8th, at 10:30 A.M. with Rev. Voorhies officiating, and the remains were laid to rest in the East Side cemetery.

The community not only feels the loss of Mr. Pullen as a man, but as a valuable citizen as well.

He was a member of the Woodman lodge and was actively interested in anything for the betterment of the community.

Our hearts go out to the bereaved family in the deepest sympathy. Although Warren J. Pullen has gone from us, his kindly influence will live on. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, July 9, 1919)
