M. Nurss Dies Suddenly
Had Not Been Feeling Well For the Past Few Days But Was Not Seriously Ill
Was a Popular R.R. Man
Wife Finds Him on Return From Lodge Lying on Bed, Had Been Dead a Short Time Only
Mead Nurss, a popular Rock Island railway man, was found dead at his home last night. Mr. Nurss had not been feeling well for a few days and had decided to lay off and to do some work around the house. He had occupied himself at this for two days. Yesterday he complained some of his head hurting him, but still worked around until evening. In the evening he persuaded his wife to go to Rebekah lodge, saying he would come after her if it rained, providing she would call him when lodge was out. Mrs. Nurss did not call him up as the Chas. Rogers family took her home. After making preparations to retire she took hold of Mr. Nurss to awaken him. He was laying on the bed dressed as she had left him and his hat was laying close by as though he had intended to go and meet her.
Mr. Nurss departed from this life apparently asleep, as there was no signs of his having moved his resting place.
Mr. Nurss was a member of the Masonic, I.O.O.F., Fireman, Yeoman and A.O.U.W. lodges and was very active in all of them, being very fond of the work. He is survived by a wife and two children. The arrangements for the funeral services have not been made. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, June 3, 1914)
