Harry E. Jones C.I.O. Organizer Dies at Toledo
The remains of Harry E. Jones were laid to rest here this afternoon in East Side Cemetery. The body arrived here this morning and the services were from the Sternborg Chapel at 2:30.Harry Jones was born and raised in this city. He died at Toledo Ohio on Monday [July 12 1948]. Services were held there before shipment. Harry was a great student of labor affairs and started here as a member of the C.I.O. By hard and studious work he worked his way up the ladder from the ranks and became an official in the organization.
He is survived by his wife by a second marriage and two daughters, one of Fall River, Mass., and one in Spencer. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, July 15, 1948)
Ben Henry, regional director of the National C.I.O. of Des Moines and J. Conan, National official from Omaha were among those who attended the Harry E. Jones funeral here today. Representatives of the local C.I.O. attended the funeral services. Mr. Jones was the original organizer of the C.I.O. here. Their floral offering was beautiful.
