We learn that Mrs. E. M. Ellis of Emmet township is very sick, her recovery being considered doubtful. This will be sad though not wholly unexpected news to her friends, as her health has been very poor for some time. (Northern Vindicator, Estherville, IA, May 14, 1886)
Died – In Emmet township, Sunday morning, May 16, 1886, Lydia, wife of E. M. Ellis, aged 70 years and six days.
This announcement will bring sorrow to many hearts. For nearly a score of years the deceased has been a resident of Emmet county, and is well known by all earlier settlers as a good consistent Christian woman, whose Christian graces were particularly conspicuous in words, works and deeds, in the humble walks of domestic life. As wife and mother, she was cheerful, kind, and helpful, bearing always her share, and more of the burdens of life, and amidst event the dark scenes through which we all are fated to pass, her presence and influence was sunshine and life. The relatives of the deceased have the sympathy of a large circle of friends. (Northern Vindicator, Estherville, IA, May 21, 1886)
