George S. Elias
After a long and protracted illness, lasting for several months, George Elias passed away at the home of his mother, Mrs. Ellen Elias, last Friday morning, Dec. 26th. Just what was the cause of his trouble is unknown, but his physical condition has been gradually on the decline for the past year.

George was born and raised in this city. He was of a very quiet and unassuming disposition. He, like all the rest of humanity, had his faults but he had many good ones. He was very fond of home and there never was a young man who had more true affection for his mother than did George.

George S. Elias was born in this city on Oct. 21, 1885, and resided here with his parents. Before the end came Dec. 26th he had many times expressed a desire for the end to come that he might be relieved of his suffering. He was married in January 1911. He leaves no immediate family except the mother, to whom he has been a devoted son, three brothers and three sisters.

The funeral services were conducted at the home Sunday afternoon, the Rev. G. F. Whitfield assisted by the Rev. J. F. Catlin officiating. The burial services were not held until Monday morning owing to the fact that a brother, Chas. Elias, could not reach here until that time. Funeral Sunday Afternoon – Burial Monday
George S. Elias died at four o’clock Friday morning at the home of his mother, Mrs. Ellen Elias, on east Pleasant street, after a brief illness of quick consumption. He had remained home for six weeks prior to his death, but was confined to his bed for less than two weeks. In the prime of life and strength of manhood he was stricken down. Near the end he expressed a desire that he might die. During his sickness he was found much in prayer, and expressed himself as prepared to go and be at rest.

Deceased was born in Estherville, October 21, 1885, and has always made his home here. He was a young man who always had a kind word for every one, and of a happy disposition. His first thought was of his mother, whom he dearly loved, and contributed liberally to her support. He was married in January, 1911, but leaves no immediate family except a devoted mother, three brothers, John Elias, at Deadwood, S. Dak.; Henry Elias and Charles Elias, Niles, Mich.; three sisters, Mrs. I. C. Adams, Columbia, Mo.; Celia Elias, Indianapolis, Ind., and Mrs. C. E. Archibald of this city.

Funeral services were held at the family home, Sunday afternoon at three o’clock, conducted by Rev. G. F. Whitfield, assisted by Rev. J. F. Catlin, and interment was postponed until Monday morning on account of the delayed arrival of Chas. Elias from Michigan.

The sympathy of the entire community is extended the bereaved relatives in their hours of profound sorrow. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, December 30, 1913)
