L. L. Bixby and wife have been called upon to undergo more than ordinary sorrow during the past ten days. They lost one of their children, fifteen years old, last Friday with diphtheria, and three more are sick with the same disease. (Northern Vindicator, Estherville, IA, July 16, 1886)

Gravestone shows date of birth as 1874, date of death as 1886
