Mrs. C. M. Bixby Passes Away
Is Well Known in This City Having Resided Here Many Years
Christina McLean was born August 4, 1864, at Gavann, near Glasgow, Scotland, and died in Estherville, Iowa, June 23, 1922, having attained the age of 57 years, ten months and nineteen days.

When a girl of 15 years, her mother having died, she came to American with her father, Mr. Kenneth McLean of this city and on July 26, 1884 was united in marriage to C. M. Bixby. To this union five children were born – John of Estherville, Harry of Ft. Dodge, Willie of Cozenavia, Wisconsin, Sybil of Estherville and Florence of Minneapolis, all of whom survive. She is also survived by her father, Mr. Kenneth McLean of Estherville, and two brothers, John McLean of New York City and Neil McLean of Panama, and one sister, Mrs. W. Johnson of Minneapolis. There are seven grand children also.

A great part of Mrs. Bixby’s life has been spent in works or mercy and kindness in caring for the sick, the distressed and the motherless. Her heart filled with kindness and she was never quite so satisfied as when helping some one in need. She has been a loving mother and a true friend. For many years she has been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and Sunday School and had much interest in the several societies of the church.

She has for a long while been a great sufferer having undergone several operations, but with her strong willpower and desire to live and to do good each time she recovered her strength and made a great fight for health and victory over her afflictions, but as time went on found herself losing in the struggle. She has been confined to her home since Christmas week and a good part of the time to her bed. Lately she failed faster as if hurrying towards the land of rest and relief and came to the end on Friday evening, June 23. Besides the relatives already mentioned she leaves a host of friends who deeply mourn her loss and who sympathize with the family in their sorrows.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Methodist church with the pastor, Rev. J. W. LaGrone, in charge and Rev. Mr. Hurley of the Baptist church assisting him. The body was buried in Eastside cemetery. The floral offerings were many and very beautiful and the church was filled with friends whose sympathy was evident. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, June 28, 1922)
