Death of Jessie Berdahl
Miss Jessie Berdahl died very suddenly at one o’clock Friday morning at the home of her sister, Mrs. Edwin Riggs, in the northeast part of town. Two weeks ago she was at the City Hospital and underwent an operation for appendicitis. She recovered so rapidly that she was able to leave the hospital in four days and went to the home of her sisters where she was up and around and on Thursday was out for a walk. She retired in the evening feeling better than she had at any time since the operation. About 12:30 her sister, who was sleeping with her awoke and found her sitting on the edge of the bed. She spoke to her and she answered back and fell back as if in a faint. Physicians were hastily summoned but she was dead when they arrived.Deceased was born at Estherville on March 29, 1898 and had always made this city her home. She was the youngest daughter of Anfen O. Berdahl and has many friends who – to learn of her untimely death. Besides her father, five sisters and – brothers are left to mourn her death.
Funeral services were held at the Riggs home Sunday afternoon at 2:30. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, January 21, 1913)
