Obituary of Lydia Ann Sherman
Lydia Ann Sherman was born in New York state August 30, 1837 and died in her home in Estherville, Iowa, March 19, 1923, having attained the age of 85 years, six months and 19 days.

She grew to womanhood in her native state and was united in marriage to S. J. Keller in Scriba, N.Y., on July 25, 1861. To this union ten children, six boys and four girls were born. Continuing to live in New York until 1881 together with her family she moved in the latter part of that year to Illinois where they lived for about two years and then still hearing the call of the West, they came to Iowa and settled in Buena Vista county where they lived until about 1902 when they moved to Emmet county where they have since lived.

Mrs. Keller was known among her neighbors and friends for her kindness and large heartedness, her mother love and large enough not only to include her own large family but made her beloved among all who knew her as well.

Having reached the four score and five years in her journey through life her sight was practically gone, yet she was able to get around the home with the aid of her cane but about four weeks ago she fell while moving around in the room and broke her hip since which time she has been confined to her bed, and further suffered a complication of pneumonia from which she died early Monday.

She is survived by her husband, S. J. Keller; two sons, F. G. Keller of Estherville and J. H. Keller of Des Moines; four daughters, Mrs. A. T. Van Vaulkinbergh and Mrs. John Steel both of Estherville and Mrs. M. L. Sherman of Chanceworth, Ill., and Mrs. Charles Wing of Brewster, Ill. There are 42 grand children and thirty-eight great grandchildren. All of whom have the deepest sympathy of the many friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were held from the home n Wednesday afternoon, Rev. J. W. LaGrone of the Methodist Episcopal church in charge. The body was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, April 4, 1923)
