Sam Chambers Passed Away Tues. Morning
Death came to Sam Chambers [Samuel Merritt Chambers] Tuesday morning [March 19, 1940] after a brief illness. Mr. Chambers had been about the city recently but had not been in the best of health. On Monday he suffered a stroke from which he never recovered.

“Sam,” as everyone knew him, came to Estherville 40 years go. He was a salesman for a cigar company during the last few years While getting along in years up to the last he enjoyed playing jokes on his friends and was a real sportsman. He could take them as well as give. He was a friend to his friends and one always knew where to find him on any subject he was interested in.

He is survived by his widow and five sons, Elmer of Alpha, Minn., Louis of Burel, Minn., Robert of Redondo Beach, Calif., Herbert of Whittier, Calif., and Clyde of Compton, Calif., and Mrs. Mae Pullen, Mrs. Alfred Anderson of this city and Mrs. Harold Pannell of Hardy.

The funeral services will be held on Sunday afternoon at three o’clock at the Presbyterian church Rev. Claude Fausnaugh officiating. Interment will be made in Oak Hill cemetery. Late arrangements were made for the funeral to allow the immediate relatives from a long distance to reach here.
