Estherville Daily News. 1 Aug 1939. Services for Mrs. Coats to be Tomorrow. Funeral services for Mrs. Lena Coats, mother of Mrs. William Hoffman of Estherville, will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Hoffman home and at 2:30 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. M. J. Ansorge of Spirit Lake officiating. Mrs. Coats died in the Coleman Hospital Sunday night after an illness of two years. She was born June 29, 1859, at Grasse, Germany, and left her native land in 1880. On Jan. 21, 1884, she was married to A. R. Coats at Auburn, Ind. Eight children were born, four of them dying in infancy. Mrs. Coats had lived in Estherville for 50 years and for the last several years had lived at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hoffman.
