Lawrence R. Gronstal Dies

Lawrence R. Gronstal, 61, former Estherville resident, died Saturday at the Immanuel Hospital in Omaha following surgery from which unforeseen complications arose. He had been in good health prior to his admittance to the hospital.

Lawrence Gronstal, the son of Knut and Ragnhild Gronstal, was born Feb. 7, 1906 in Estherville. He was confirmed in the Estherville Lutheran Church and received his education in the Estherville schools, graduating from high school with the class of 1915. In 1951 he married Ethel Olson of Minneapolis.

Mr. Gronstal had been in hotel work all of his lives, beginning this work at the local Orleans Hotel. He had served us auditor and manager of hotel in various Midwestern cities and was a director and Vice president of the Hotel Greeters Assn. At the time of his death, he was an assistant manager of a large motel in Chicago. A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the American Legion. He was also a member of Consistory and Shrine.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel; one sister, Wilma of Waterloo; four brothers, George of North Hollywood, Calif., Knute of Omaha, Joseph of Treynor and Carl of Estherville; 11 nephews, one niece, several grand nephews and nieces and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 tomorrow afternoon at the Estherville Lutheran Church. The Rev. T. W. Maakestad will officiate. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Sternborg Funeral Home beginning this evening.
