Oren Amundson Killed in Action First of the Week

HE LIVED ON SWAN LAKE

Son of Mr. and Mrs. Amund Amundson—Was in France Nine Months

A telegram came to Mr. and Amund Amundson, last Monday morning, stating that their son, Oren, who has been a member of the aviation corps, and stationed in France for the past nine months, had been seriously wounded while in while in action. About an hour later a second telegram was received stating the young man was dead from wounds. No particulars were given in regard to how he met his death, at this time the grief stricken parents have received nothing further than the two telegrams.

The young hero, was twenty-three years of age, and is well known in Emmet county, where he had grown to young manhood. About a ago he enlisted in the aviation corps, and after training in this country, was sent France. He had been on the front for the past nine months. While here he lived with in parents on the banks of Swan Lake, in which community his parents are numbered among the most substantial cltizens.

The news of his sacrifice has cast a pall of gloom over the entire county. Once more the war is brought home to us. His is the first Emmet county blood to be shed on the battlefields of France. But there are almost three hundred other Emmet county boys now in training and on the battlefield to aveng his death, besides thousands of other American soldiers who are at this time fighting gloriously that those of their number who are called upon to lay down their lives shall not have died in vain. His death is but another reason why you and I should increase our individual efforts, that we may in our individual efforts, that we may in ter [sic] to a more speedy close, The grief stricken relatives have sympathy of the entire community their loss, which is our loss.
