Ed Broms Passes Suddenly
Former Dakota Division Dispatcher Stricken With Heart Attack , Tuesday Night at Cedar Rapids
Ed Broms, 58, brother of Selby Broms of Estherville passed away at his home in Cedar Rapids at 11 o'clock Monday night. He had been working all day and had apparently felt alright. A heart attack was the cause of death.
Mr. Broms, a former resident of Estherville, has lived in Cedar Rapids for the past five years. He went to Cedar Rapids as a train dispatcher for the Rock Island, November 15, 1936, after the division offices were moved to Cedar Rapids from Estherville. He had been dispatcher for the past thirty years.
He went to Cedar Rapids as telegraph operator from Alexandria, Minn., where he had been working for the Great Northern Railroad. He first came to Estherville in 1906 as train dispatcher from Cedar Rapids. He worked as dispatcher in Estherville for twenty-five years before he went to Cedar Rapids to work as dispatcher and make his home.
Mr. Broms is survived by his widow; his mother, Mrs. John Broms of Alexandria, Minn.; a daughter, Lila Verne, who has a position in New York; a sister, Mrs. Clifford Peterson of Alexandria, Minn.; three brothers, Selby of Estherville, Anton of Portland, Oregon, and Emil of Oceanside, Oregon.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
