Dr. E. H. Ballard Dead.

Ezra H. Ballard, M. D., was born Nov. 18, 1840, in Helena, N. Y., and died Nov. 9, 1900, in Estherville, Iowa, being nearly sixty years of age. He was an only son in a family of seven children, only two of whom survive. He received his education at the public schools, Fort Covington Academy and State Normal School at Albany, N. Y. In 1868 he graduated from the medical department of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. He married Amanda Kirkpatrick on Dec. 25, 1869. One daughter, Mrs. Ruth Fullinwider, and one son, Carl H. Ballard, M. D., survive their father. His wife died February 13, 1891. During 1871 and 1873 he served as superintendent of schools in Emmet county and again in 1885 and 1889, serving nearly eight years. He was county treasurer from 1874 to 1879, since that time he gave his whole attention to the practice of medicine in this city and vicinity. He was thus entrusted with the educational and financial interests of the county and proved worthy of the confidence reposed. As a physician he had the confidence of those who employed him and enjoyed a profitable practice. His funeral was conducted Sunday afternoon by Rev. M. D. Bevan at the residence of J. J. Klopp and was largely attended by many of the business men, new and older citizens. Drs. Anderson, Adams, Birney, Bradley, Salisbury and Wilson acted as pall bearers. He was buried beside his father in the Estherville cemetery.
