MARY A. BAGAN PASSED AWAY ON SATURDAY

Had Been Confined to Her Bed Many Weeks

EMMET COUNTY PIONEER

Came Here in 1884 and Located on Farm Near Dolliver—Raised Large Family

Mrs. Mary Bagan, one of the pioneer residents of this county, passed away early Saturday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. A. Swift, on north Seventh street, after an illness of nine weeks, all of which time she was confined to her bed. The direct cause of her death was gall stones. Deceased had been a resident of Emmet county since 1884, coming here from LeRoy, Minn., and locating on a farm in Lincoln township, near Dolliver. She was born at Watertown, Wis., in 1851 and her maiden name was Mary A. Carey. June 30, 1872, she was married to Patrick Bagan, at Chester, Iowa. After coming to Emmet county they resided on the farm until Mr. Bagan's death twenty-six years ago. They raised a family of eleven children, seven of whom survive, three girls, Mrs. R. C. Yepson, of Detroit, Michigan; Mrs. Roy Lynch, of Eldora, Iowa, and Mrs. W. A. Swift, of this city. Four sons, W. E. and D. A. Bagan, of this city; D. V. Bagan, Fort Dodge, and P. J. Bagan, Waterloo, Iowa.

Deceased was a true christian woman, of the Catholic faith, and lived a life of helpfulness to others. She was kindhearted, true to her God and loved by all who knew her. Not only the immediate family but neighbors and friends are going to miss her words of good cheer and comfort. The high esteem in which she was held in this community was attested by the beautiful floral offerings at the church where the funeral was held Monday forenoon. Rev. J. P. Conway officiated at the funeral service and the remains were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery.

Those from away present at the funeral were: Mrs. P. J. Noonan and son and Mr. and Mrs. James Martin, of St. James, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Carey, Albert Lea; Mrs. Anna Doyle and daughters and sons, Albert Lea; Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Burns, Cleveland, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. John Carey, Chester, Iowa; Mrs. P. Granahan and Frank Bagan, Chester, Iowa; Mrs. Frank Ahearn, Mrs. O'Leary and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cairn, of Albert Lea; Pat Bagan and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Bagan, of Albert Lea, and Mrs. Werling, of Sioux Falls.

The many friends of the Bagan family in this community express their heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved relative's in their time of profound sorrow.
