PIONEER CITIZEN PASSES AWAY

Helga Christian, born Rasmussen, was born in Hjelmeland, Norway, August 25, 1837. She came to this country in the year 1857 to LaSalle county, Illinois. Some time after they [her parents and family] moved from Livingston county to Cass county, Iowa. Here she was married to Mr. Thor Christian in 1862. To this union were born ten children, five boys and five girls. Five of the children died at an early age. In the year 1879 they moved from Livingston county to Cass county, Iowa. There Mr. Thor Christian died, March 20 1886. Mrs. Helga Christian was now left with many children and in poor circumstances. Charles Christian, her oldest son, had to take hold of the farm and the running of it. The last years she has made her home with her son, Charles Christian in Jack Creek township. During the last winter she has been ailing especially troubled with heart disease. She died the 23rd day of February,1921, at the age of eighty-three years, five months and twenty-eight days.

Mrs. Helga Christian was a woman that kept herself to the word of God and died with the assured hope that God for Jesus sake would receive her soul.

The funeral was held the 25th day of February from the home of her son, Charles Christian. Services, conducted by the Rev. T. Hansen, at the home were at 12 o'clock and 1 o'clock at the church. She was laid to rest at the High Lake cemetery where her body will sleep until resurrection morning.

Those who mourn the loss of a dear mother are: Mrs. Mary Benson, Benson, Minn.; Mrs. Ole J. Cleveland, Ida, Minn.; Charles Christian, Halfa, Iowa; Carl Christian, Buena Vista county, Iowa, and Lewis Christian of Palo Alto county, Iowa.There are also thirty-four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
