Mrs. Tosdal, Pioneer of County, Dies
Mrs. H. H. Tosdal, resident of Emmet county for 80 years, died at her home 403 South Eighth street at 2:50 p.m. yesterday [March 24, 1953] at the age of 88. She died of a cerebral thrombosis after being in ill health since her first attack on Aug. 7, 1952.
Born Nov. 13, 1864, in Allamakee county, Anna A. Olson moved with her parents to Emmet county in 1872.
She was married to H. H. Tosdal on Aug. 1, 1888, by the Rev. Hagbarth Engh. Three children were born to this union, Dr. H. R. Tosdal, of Boston, Mass., a professor of business administration at Harvard University for 30 years; O. L. Tosdal, Minneapolis businessman; and Mrs. Robert J. (Luella) Lund of Thief River Falls, Minn.
Mrs. Tosdal was a member of the Estherville Lutheran church, active in church work, Sunday school and missionary work throughout her long membership.
Her husband was Estherville's first photographer and later was in retail business in the building now housing the Gamble store.
After World War I Mrs. Tosdal became interested in helping war veterans and was active in the Service Star Legion for over 30 years.
In August of 1948, Mr. and Mrs. Tosdal celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with all their children and grandchildren home.
Surviving her death are her husband, two sons, a daughter, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Estherville Lutheran church, the Rev. L. G. Hinderaker officiating.
Burial will be in the Estherville Lutheran cemetery.
Friends may call at the Sternborg Funeral Home Friday and until Saturday noon when the body will be taken to the church where it will lie in state up to the time of the funeral.
