Henrik Tosdal, 98, Father of Mrs. Robert Lund, Dies

Henrik H. Tosdal, 98, a pioneer resident of Estherville, and father of Mrs. Robert J. Lund of this city [Thief River Falls, Minn.] died Thursday, March 18 [1965] at Holy Family Hospital. Death was attributed to infirmities of advanced age. He had been in failing health since October when he suffered a broken leg at the home of a son, Orlando, in Minneapolis.

Funeral services for H. H. Tosdal were held Monday, March 22 at Estherville Lutheran church. Rev. Roy Hendrickson officiated and burial was in the church cemetery.

Henrik Hanssen Tosdal, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hans Tosdal, was born January 30, 1867 at Os, Per Bergen, Norway. He was baptized and confirmed at Os church, and received his education in elementary and parochial schools in Norway prior to coming to the United States at the age of 15 years.

He operated a photo business at Albert Lea and Blooming Prairie [in Minnesota] before moving to Estherville in 1886 when he opened photo shops in Estherville and at Spirit Lake. He later added a stock of general merchandise.

He retired in 1920. For the past six years he lived with his son Orlando in Minneapolis.

Mr. Tosdal was married August 1, 1888 to Anna Olsen at Estherville.

He was a member of the Estherville Lutheran church, serving as a church officer for many years.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Luella) Lund of Thief River Falls, two sons, Dr. Harry R. Tosdal of Belmont, Mass., and Orlando L. Tosdal of Minneapolis; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Anna in 1953, five brothers and four sisters.
