Hip Fracture Proves Fatal

Aged Wallingford Lady Passed Away Tuesday

The shock of fracturing her hip Monday evening proved fatal to Mrs. O. L. Rustad of near Wallingford, and she passed away Tuesday Morning [June 10, 1941] at the Coleman hospital where she had been taken for treatment Monday evening. Mrs. Rustad was 88 years old and has been living with her son and daughter-in-law on the Rustad farm. Mr. Rustad passed away on April 23 of this year [1941].

Although Mrs. Rustad had not been in the best of health she had been able to be up and around and care for herself until the time of her fall.

Born in Norway on September 28, 1852, Mrs. Rustad came to the United States in 1880. She was united in marriage in 1890 with Olavus Rustad and following their marriage they settled on a farm in High Lake township. They resided there until 1916 when they moved to a home in Wallingford. In 1939 they returned to their farm to make their home with their son.

Mrs. Rustad united with the Lutheran church while she was yet a girl and has been a faithful worker in the church and its groups as long as her health permitted. She was one of the finer types of pioneer ladies who was ever ready to lend a hand or help a friend or neighbor in distress. She knew what it meant to struggle through the hardships of pioneer days and never grumbled at her lot or became discouraged.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at the Norwegian church with the Rev. Hinderaker officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside cemetery near Wallingford.

Surviving their mother are one son, Lewis Rustad, of Wallingford, and one daughter, Mrs. Clara Helgason of Cyrus, Minn. There are also eleven grandchildren surviving.
