Halvor H. Peterson, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Halvor Peterson, was born July 29, 1883, in Voss, Norway. As a child 5 years old in company with his parents and brothers and sisters, he immigrated to America. An emigrant family, they located on the farm in Swan Lake township, Emmet County, Iowa, where Mr. Peterson continued to live throughout his life. In 1898 he was confirmed by Rev. Engh.

On February 5th, 1914, he was united in marriage to Miss Emma Fossum of Wallingford.

Mr. Peterson was blessed with good health throughout his life. However, since October 1st, this fall, his health began to decline and it did so quite rapidly. Suffering off and on with very severe attacks of gall-stone trouble, he was brought to the Coleman hospital in Estherville for the third time this fall on last Wednesday morning, December 7th. During that morning he submitted to a major operation for his illness, but due to the far advanced stage of his sickness, he succumbed to the power of death on the following day at 4:30 o'clock in the morning. On his deathbed, he retained his consciousness until a few minutes before his eyelids finally closed. As he realized that life was quickly receding, he stated repeatedly that he was ready to go, trusting in God's mercy only. When Halvor Peterson left this world and passed on into the next one, he was 49 years, 4 months and 10 days old.

Besides his sorrowing wife, he leaves to mourn his departure his aged mother, a brother, Lewis, and a sister, Julia, now Mrs. Ray Bryan. A brother, Peter, preceded him in death many years ago; he died of typhoid fever. Likewise did his sister, Elena, pass away when she was but a child; her death was due to diphtheria.

Mr. Halvor Peterson was a beloved husband, son, and brother. As a farmer he was very industrious, as a neighbor kind and helpful. He was held in high esteem by his many friends. As a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, he was always very loyal.

The funeral service was conducted on Saturday, December 10th. Starting at one o'clock at the home a short devotional service was conducted by his pastor, Rev. Peder Nordsletten of Wallingford. The service at the Immanuel Lutheran Church began at two o'clock. Rev. S. Strand, one of the former pastors of the congregation, assisted Rev. Nordsletten during the service. The choir sang three songs at the church, also at the home and likewise at the High Lake Cemetery, where Mr. Peterson was laid to rest. [Note Mr. Halvor H. Peterson is buried at Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery.]
