Died: Mr. Nels Peterson [who was born in Norway 5 Jul 1835 on the Brugjeld farm in Balestrand parish, Sogn, Norway to Peder Nielsen Brugjeld and Gjertrud Olsdatter Torsnes] died yesterday [3 May 1873] at his residence in Peterson township, [later called High Lake township], after a protracted illness of consumption. Mr. Peterson was one of the pioneers of this county, and a man who, by hard labor and judicious management, had acquired a fine property. He was recognized as an upright, moral citizen, a kind neighbor, and true friend and he commanded the respect of all who knew him. His demise is not only a serious and irreparable loss to his worthy family, but a great loss to the whole county which has known him so long and so well.
[Surviving were his wife Betsey, three sons, Peter N., George N. and Ole N. and two daughters, Guri and Tena. Mr. Peterson, who donated land for a cemetery which was first called the Brugjeld cemetery, was buried next to his first born son, the first occupant of the cemetery. The cemetery is now known as the Wallingford Lutheran cemetery.]
