Dean Melvin Osher Dies In Nebraska Plane Crash
Dean Melvin Osher, 52, native of Wallingford, died as a result of a plane crash near Hebron Airport, Hebron, Neb.,Thursday Feb. 22, 1973.
Mr. Osher, operator of the Osher Flying Service and Hebron airport manager, specialized in crop dusting and flying instruction. He was piloting a single-engine crop-dusting plane, a Cessna 188, when it crashed nose first into a wheat field about 40 feet from the airport runway.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today (Monday) at Grace Lutheran Church of Hebron with the Rev. Douglas Allen officiating. Interment was in Rosehill Cemetery, Hebron. Montgomery-Schroeder Funeral Home of Hebron was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Osher, the son of Nels and Winifred Boone Osher, was born March 30, 1920, at Wallingford. He attended Wallingford grade school, Graettinger High School and Iowa State at Ames. He served during World War II in the air force and remained in the air force about eight years.
Dean Melvin Osher married Harriet Dyer on Aug. 10, 1941, in Minnesota, and to this union five children were born. Mr. and Mrs. Osher had made Hebron their home for the past 15 years.
He was the president of the Blue Valley Flying Club, a member of the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, NATA, the American Legion, and a member of the Grace Lutheran Church of Hebron.
He is survived by his wife, Harriet of Hebron, and their children, Richard Osher of Lincoln, Steven Osher of Crete, Christine Navis of Lincoln, Carol Valck of Bethesda, Md., and Diane Luehring of Fairbury; three brothers, Edwin Osher of Phoenix, Ariz., Wayne Osher of Mesa, Ariz., and Gary Osher of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Mildred DeWall of Phoenix, Ariz., and Viola Sipe of North Ridge, Calif., and four grandchildren.
