WALLINGFORD - Funeral services for Norman "Normie" Olson, 93, of Wallingford will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday May 26 at Wallingford Lutheran Church with Pastor Rusty Bailey and Randy James officiating. Interment will be held at Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery. He passed away Friday, May 21, 2004, at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. tomorrow evening at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

Norman Romaine Olson, the son of Ole and Gjertina (Peterson) Olson, was born March 1, 1911, on the family farm in rural Wallingford. He was baptized and confirmed at Wallingford Lutheran Church. He received his education in the Wallingford schools.

As a young man Norman trapped muskrats at High Lake to pay for his creamery route. On February 13, 1937, Norman was united in marriage to Viola Jacobsen in Spencer.

After their marriage the couple made their home in Wallingford for a time before buying and moving to a farm west of Wallingford in 1939, where they have lived since. Norman enjoyed all types of sporting events. The couple especially enjoyed attending their grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's sporting events. Viola and Norman went to the girls State Basketball Tournaments in Des Moines for many years. Norman also enjoyed milking cows over the years, collecting antiques and refinishing antique furniture. Viola died November 7, 2003.

Norman was a lifetime member of Wallingford Lutheran Church where he was active in many different church activities and functions. He was the church bell ringer for many years at funeral services. Norman was also a past member of the Terril School Board of Education.

Left to cherish Norman's memory are: one son, Darwin Olson and his wife, Mary Ann of Arnolds Park; one daughter, Gloria Krieger and her husband, Donald of Terril; nine grandchildren: Kellie and her husband Kent Snyder; Konnie and her husband, Bruce Mortenson; Kurt and his wife, Georgia; Kaylene and her fiance Rick Jackson; Kyle and his wife Tammy; Kevin; Kami and her husband Terry Hansen; David and his wife Peggy; Dan and his wife Karen; fifteen great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Thorvold Jacobsen and his wife, Gail of Ruthven; sister-in-law, Mary Knudson of Des Moines; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Jacobsen of Graettinger and Arlene Jacobsen of Spencer.

He has been preceded in death by his wife; parents; four brothers, Clarence, Orlando, Arthur, Lloyd and two sisters, Blanch and Myrtle.
