Death at 92 for Morrice

John Hutchison Morrice, 92, a longtime businessman in Wallingford and Graettinger, died shortly after noon Tuesday at the Good Samaritan Home. He had been in failing health for three months.

He was born Aug. 9, 1873, in Aberdeen Shire, Scotland, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Morrice. After receiving his education there and graduating from Aberdeen Business College, he came to the Wallingford area in the 1890's. He remained there for one year before returning to Scotland for 12 months before once again moving to Wallingford, where he lived the rest of his life.

He was married to Laura Evenson of Estherville in 1902.

Mr. Morrice was associated with the Graettinger elevator and was one of the original organizers and stockholders and, for 40 years, the manager, of the Farmers Elevator Co. of Wallingford. He also managed the Wallingford Telephone Co. for a number of years.

He was a member of the Estherville Elks Lodge for more than 50 years and was affiliated with the Estherville First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include two sons, LeRoy of Milwaukee, Wis., and Victor of Waterloo; and a number of nieces and nephews, including Arthur Fossum of Estherville.

His parents, wife, one sister and four brothers preceded him in death.

Family services are scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church, followed by 2 p.m. public services, Rev. H. Allen Wirtz officiating. Burial will be in Wallingford's Riverside Cemetery.

Friends may call from noon today until noon Thursday at Reese Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the church to lie in state, and the casket will not be opened following the final rites.
