Mrs. Lewis Berg Dies at Her Home

Mrs. Lewis E. (Helen) Berg, 77, lifetime resident of the Wallingford and Estherville communities, died last evening [Nov. 5, 1956] at 5 o'clock at her home after a long illness. Mrs. Berg was injured in a fall last February and has been in poor health ever since.

Mrs. Berg was born Feb. 19, 1879, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John K. Johnson, in High Lake township near Wallingford. She received her education in High Lake township schools and was married Feb. 1, 1900 to Lewis E. Berg at Blue Earth, Minn. The couple farmed for 10 years immediately north of the present Emmet county farm and for another 10 years west of Wallingford. They moved to Estherville in 1919.

Mr. Berg preceded his wife in death in 1933. Surviving include five children, Arthur Berg of Fairmont, Minn., W. T. Berg of Estherville, Mrs. Chester (Juanita) Carlson of Rockwell City, Nina Berg of Los Angeles, Mrs. George (Ruth) Hackett of Estherville. One son, Marville, preceded her in death March 25, 1956.

She also is survived by five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and four sisters, Mrs. Tena Johnson of Bricelyn, Minn., Mrs. Otto Larson of Wallingford, Mrs. Carrie Anderson of Hayward, Calif., and Mrs. Sena Carter of Bricelyn, Minn.

One brother, Nels J. Johnson, who made his home with Mrs. Berg, preceded her in death Aug. 1, 1956 and a sister Hannah, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Berg was a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at the Sternborg Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Theodore W. Maakestad of Estherville Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Wallingford. Friends may call at the Sternborg Funeral Home this evening and until time of services.
