DEATH COMES TO GEORGE L. HOLMES

End Comes After a Long Period of Illness—Leaves Wife and Two Children.

George Lyman Holmes, the youngest son of George E. and Margaret A. Holmes, was born at Toulon, Illinois, September 9, 1885, and died at his home in Esthervllle, Iowa, February 5, 1920, aged 34 years, 4 months and 27 days.

He lived at the place of his birth until the year 1902, at which time he moved with his mother and brothers and sisters to Scranton, Iowa, where he resided until 1912, when he moved to Estherville where he has since resided, having only recently built a new home in the eastern part of town where he passed away.

He was married to Miss Carrie Duff on September 8, 1909, at Scranton, Iowa, which union was blessed with three children; one having died in infancy, the other two, Carl D., age eight, and little Marguerite Ina, age two, survive to mourn his death. Besides his wife and two children he also leaves five brothers and two sisters—William H., of Murdock, Minnesota; Lovell S., of Shenandoah, Iowa; Mary Galbraith, of Fort Collins, Colorado; Edward F., of Dunnell, Minn.; Margaret Anderson, of Woodbine Iowa; David W., of Scranton, Iowa; and Robert H., of Chicago, together with a host of friends and neighbors who deeply mourn his loss.

He was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church in EatherviUe on November 28, 1916 together with his Wife and little son, and had since been a faithful and devout member of the church. He was also a member of the Modern Woodman and of the Order of Elks. He not been in good health for some months, or even years, though there was no great alarm at his condition until within a day or two of the end. After much intense suffering the end came quietly and as sleep, and he closed his eyes, and he was not, for God took him.

Funeral services -were held from the home on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock. Rev. J. W. LaGrone, pastor of the family, was in charge and spoke briefly from the text, "Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was; and the spirit shall return to God Who gave it." The body was laid away in Oak Hill cemetery. The floral offerings were most beautiful and abundant and the attendance of friends and neighbors at the funeral was very large. All were deeply moved and many expressed their great sympathy, with the bereaved wife and children.
