Arnt Espeset Dies at 86

Arnt Espeset Sr., 86, died in his home at 620 North 8th Street at 9:40 p.m. yesterday. Cause of death was attributed to infirmities of advanced age. He had been in failing health for five years.

Arnt Rudolph Espeset Sr., was born Jan. 19, 1879, to Mr. and Mrs. Halvor Espeset on a farm near Estherville. He attended rural Emmet County and Estherville Schools. Sept. 12, 1917, he married Irene Grodland in Estherville.

Mr. Espeset spent his entire life in Emmet County. He farmed until 1925, when he moved to Estherville to be employed as a custodian at Washington School, which was later renamed Roosevelt School. He retired in 1954 after 29 years as a custodian.

He was a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church.

Mr. Espeset is survived by his wife; two sons, Arnt Jr. of Estherville and Richard of Chicago; two daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Vivian) Handeland of Forest City, and Mrs. Robert (Audry) Loveland of Kassoon, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Irl Newlan of Auburn, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Family services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Estherville Lutheran Church. Public services will follow at 2 p.m., Rev. Roy Hendrickson officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery.

Friends may call at the Reese Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Saturday until noon Monday, when the casket will be taken to the church to lie in state until time of services.
