Barber Here For Many Years Dies

Fred R. Elwood, 74, a barber in Estherville for 43 years, died at 1 a.m. today in his home. He suffered a stroke and a cerebral hemorrhage. He had been ill for the past four years.

Mr. Elwood was born March 10, 1885 in Jasper County, Iowa. He received his education in the Emmetsburg schools. He was married to Alice Stevens Oct. 5, 1914 at Vinton. That same year they moved to this county. He was a member of the Union Baptist Church.

He is survived by his widow and a daughter, Mrs. Manuel (Ruth) Horn of Estherville. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and a sister.

Funeral services will be held Friday at Sternborg Funeral Home with the Rev. Eugene Olson officiating. Burial will be in Oakhill cemetery. Friends may call a the funeral home from tomorrow until time of services.

Pallbearers will be his six nephews, Fred H., Eldon, Ray and Edwood Elwood, Donald and James Walz, all of Estherville.
