Annie Paulson Egeland, 1912-2006

Services for Annie D. Egeland were held at Wallingford Lutheran Church in Wallingford, Iowa on Thursday, November 9th at 10:30 a.m. Officiating was Pastor Tedd Rieke. Organist was Jeanne Handeland. Honorary Casketbearers were Bev Egeland, Sheila Menke, Sheri Morfitt, Sheryl Kahl, Jill Keck and Amber Harris. Active Casketbearers were Steve Egeland, Bob Menke, Kevin Jass, Brian Kahl, Darin Jass, Ryan Harris, Dan Keck and Eric Weaver. Internment was at the Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery in Wallingford, Iowa.

Annie Dorothy Paulson, the daughter of Simon and Bertha (Nelson) Paulson, was born April 28, 1912, in Swan Lake Township. Annie was baptized May 31, 1912, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was confirmed May 17, 1925. She passed away Monday, November 6, 2006 at the Avera Family Health in Estherville, Iowa at the age of 94 years old.

She attended rural school in Jack Creek Township and also Estherville. She graduated from Estherville High School in 1929.

Annie married Norman Bernard Egeland on July 6, 1933, at the home of her parents. After their marriage, the couple farmed on the Ole Egeland farm south of Wallingford. On that farm they raised five wonderful children. In 1978, the couple moved into a new home in Wallingford and son Gail moved to the farm and continued farming. Norman continued to enjoy the farming by helping his son. Annie was noted for her delicious meals and lunches and she would serve to who ever came to help in fields or baling or whatever needed to be done. She is remembered for her many special recipes, including to this day, peanut butter balls. A highlight of their married life was a trip to Norway. While there they were able to tour many sights and visit many relatives. Norman passed away December 9, 1990. In 1997, Annie moved to Estherville, making her home in Friendship Terrace. In May 2005, Annie moved into Good Samaritan Center. In her leisure time she enjoyed birds, reading word search books, baking and flowers. Annie especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Annie took deep pleasure in church and was an active member of Wallingford Lutheran Church and participated in ladies aid, quilting, serving and played piano when needed.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Gail Egeland and his wife, Jean of Wallingford; Mary Ann Morfitt and her husband, Fred of Everly, Iowa; Marlene Jass and her husband, Curtis of Milford, Iowa; Beverly Anderson and her husband, John A.; Marilyn Garrelts and her husband, Eldon all of Estherville; nine grandchildren, Steve Egeland, Sheila (Morfitt) Menke, Sheri Morfitt, Sheryl (Morfitt) Kahl, Kevin and Darin Jass, Dan Keck, Eric Weaver, Amber (Weaver) Harris; and seven great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Joe and Ali Menke, Kari, Clayton and Chloe Kahl and Kayla Weaver.

She has been preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Jerome and Paul; three sisters, Gladys, Mary, Myrtle and one son-in-law.
