ESTHERVILLE --Funeral services for Oscar Acord, 86, of Estherville will be held at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow, May 4 at the United Methodist church with Rev. Lynn A. Potter officiating. Interment will be held at East Side Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91 of Estherville. He died on Saturday, May 1, 2004, at Rosewood Manor in Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. today at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel in Estherville.

Oscar Acord was born on April 13, 1918 to Robert McClelland Acord and Dora (McClard) Acord in Bloomfield, Miss.

He attended school in Bloomfield. Oscar served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1941-1945 as a ship's cook. After his honorable discharge from military service in 1945, he moved to the Estherville area and worked for A. J. Loftis farming. On June 18, 1949, Oscar was united in marriage to Betty Hartman in Estherville. The couple made their home in Estherville and Oscar was employed at the John Morrell and Company Beef Packing Plant as a company meat inspector. He retired in 1983. Oscar loved fishing, hunting, gardening, cooking and spending time with family and friends. His good nature and generous spirit touched many lives. Betty died March 14, 1991. He has been a resident of Rosewood Manor since June of 2000.

Oscar was a member of the United Methodist Church in Estherville where he had been an active member of the United Methodist Men. He was also a member of VFW Post 3388 and the Elks in Estherville.

Oscar is survived by one son, Richard Acord and his wife, Kathy of Rusk, Texas, one daughter, Pat Lausen and her husband, Ralph of Estherville, grandchildren, Martha Origer, Amanda Polzin, Andrew Lausen, Eric Middlebrook, Autumn Black; three great-grandchildren, Jordan and Madison Origer and Camryn Middlebrook.

He has been preceded in death by his wife; parents; two brothers; one sister; and eleven step-brothers and step-sisters.
