My great grandmother was a Schmitt from Dubuque County. She was the granddaughter of Nicholas Schmitt, who came with his brother, Peter, to Holy Cross in 1852. Do you happen to know your greatgreat grandfather's name? I have several John and Peter Schmitt's in my family but don't seem to have one that is a definite match. I see you spell your name with only one name but I wonder if we are related. I also had Schmitt family members who went to North Washington. Let me know if you would like to compare more information.
