I have a copy of a mid 19th century lithograph, titled "View of Dubuque" by Lucinda Farnham. I have recently retired, and am liquidating a collection I have amassed over the past 40 years, including this item. The thing that makes this particular copy important, is that it has a large plastic pouch taped to the back of the work, wit a handwritten notation describing the view being seen in the work. This description is signed "Henry G. Langworthy, President Dubuque Centennial Association, Dubuque Centennial, Aug. 6 1933." Mr. Langworthy describes the view as being "From the old home of James L. Langworthy, the first pioneer after Julian Dubuque...." the description continues, and mentions "mining claims on June 1,1830, the first tide of western civilization." It talks of swimming horses across the Mississippi, etc. There is more to the description. I can provide photos upon request. The litho also has a paddle wheel steamer name "A.L. GREGOIRE" which I have found mentioned online as one of the earliest ferry to cross the Mississippi at Dubuque.
As stated, I am liquidating, and would like to offer this to the Dubuque Historical community before attempting to sell at auction. Any resources you might provide for marketing the item there (I'm in Florida), would be greatly appreciated!
