Death Record for Charles Valin

VALIN APPEARS IN CENSUS RECORDS AS VOLEN, VOLLE, VOLIN, VOLLEN

Charles and Marie (Bernier) Valin came from St-Hyacinthe, Quebec to Jefferson Township, Dubuque County, IA in July or august of 1848, and settled near Rickardsville in the French Settlement. Charles died in 1855 and while I have been able to tie down most things in their lives, I have not been able to come up with a death record for him. Anyone have any ideas? I understand that the Catholic Church which was there (St. Joseph) is gone from the site and the gravestones were recycled by the farmers. I have also tried the archives of the Archdiocese of Dubuque (which are quite good, by the way, and have been the source of several baptism and marriage records).
