Timothy M. Hopkins served in the 21st Iowa Infantry during the Civil War. After the war, he worked as a traveling salesman for Levens and Dillon. Tim lived in Dubuque, but said he was on the road 27 to 30 days at a time and usually returned home only on Sundays. [This from his obituary and in testimony given October 1, 1893, to a Special Examiner for the federal pension office].
