Hi Laura,
I'm researching Joseph & Mary too - they're my great-great grandparents, so we must be cousins!
My great-grandfather is their son, Peter Joseph Weber, born 30 Aug 1855 in Iowa, died 22 Jun 1941 in San Francisco. So far, this is what I have:
Joseph Weber, born 1816 in Hesse, Germany, died between 1870-1880. He married Mary Adams on 8 Jun 1847 in Dubuque, Iowa. She was born in 1826 in Luxembourg and died 30 Dec 1896. Their children are:
Margaret (1849- )
Anna (1850- )
Sister Mary (1852- )
Sister Elizabeth (1854- )
Peter Joseph (1855-1941)
Nicholas Joseph (1857-1949)
Michael J. (1859-1936)
Susan (Circa 1861- )
Catharine (Circa 1863- )
John (1865- )
Josephine (Circa 1868- )
Christine (Circa 1870- )The first 9 kids were born in Iowa and the last 3 were born after the family moved to Sutter County, California.
Peter Joseph Weber married Mary Ann Mibach and they had 4 kids, 2 girls and 2 boys. Both girls became nuns (Sisters of Notre Dame). In fact, while one of the girls was still a student at Notre Dame Academy in Marysville, her aunt Mary Weber was a nun there. Both of the boys entered the seminary. One, Fr. Peter Weber, ran St. Vincent's Home for Boys in San Rafael. The other, Joseph Michael Weber, decided the seminary wasn't for him, and subsequently became my grandfather.
I've been able to trace the male Weber lines up to 1930, and I've often wondered if there were still Webers out in California (I live outside Philadelphia).
I'd love to trade info, and look forward to hearing from you.
Margaret
