BALTES, BLOCK, LUBECK, MCCALLUM, RYAN, KOHLS

We are hoping that someone can help us find what happened to Fred Baltes after 1921 when we lose track of him.

The attached photo is of Frederick William Baltes (seated) and his bride, Ida Block when they were married in1903 in Clayton County, IA. The other two individuals in the photo are Ida's brother and sister.

Fred was the son of Frederick and Constance (Lubeck) Baltes and born 2 Sep 1878. We know that Fred was living with his parents in Dubuque in 1880, then they were in Guttenberg in the 1895 state census. We also found him in the 1910 and the 1920 census records living with his mother in Dubuque.

Fred had three sisters: Louise who married Logan McCallum and lived initially in Wright county, Clara who married James Ryan and lived in Dubuque, and Alvena "Vena" who married Edwin Elmer Kohls and lived in Clayton County.

Fred and Ida were divorced sometime before 1909 when Ida remarried. We found his 1918 draft registration record but can find no other information about him since the 1920 census and his mother's 1921 obituary from the Dubuque paper. At the time of his 1918 draft registration, he was working for the CMSP&P railroad.

Thanks,
John Kohl
