marriage of g.grandmother

my great grandmother left Julien, Iowa sometime between 1890 and 1900; marrying, and having a baby boy in l909. We can find no marriage record here in st louis between those dates; wondering if she was married in her home town of julien?
my great grandmother's maiden name: josephine hennessey (dob 8/7/1882); husband: ben spark(e)s (also from julien) dob 8/28/1882. Ben's mother remarried and her name was margaret thompson (spouse b. thomas thompson). Anyone have any knowledge of these families or whom I should contact? Maybe they were not married?
