William J. Lynn, 74, of 1222 Blackhawk Drive, died at 5:08 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, following a sudden illness, with his family by his side.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Columbkille's Catholic church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 3 to 8 today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 4:30 p.m.
My Lynn owned and operated the family grocery store, the former Lynn's Food Market, at 424 W. Locust St., and was a third generation grocer. After he left the family business, he worked for Vallet Poultry as a sales representative until his retirement in 1993.
He was born on Oct. 3, 1928, in Dubuque, son of Melvin and Hazel (Chewning) Lynn. He married Jeannette Fay on April 21, 1956, at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
He graduated from the former Loras Academy and was an Army Korean War Veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Jeannette; two daughters, Karen (Greg) Clemen and Mary Beth (Steve) Bowden, both of Dubuque; four sons, Robert E. (Leigh Ann) Lynn, David J. (Valerie) Lynn and Kevin J. (Kerri) Lynn, all of Dubuque, and Keith W. (Karen) Lynn, of Saint Francis, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; and a brother, James C. (Rose Marie) Lynn, of Mesa, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
