BANKSTON, Iowa -- Paul J. Steffen, 48, of 19819 Humke Road, Durango, rural Lattnerville, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at his home due to a sudden illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Clement Catholic Church, Bankston, with the Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in St. Clement Catholic Cemetery, Bankston. A private family visitation will be held will be held at the Reiff Funeral Home, Epworth.

He was born on March 12, 1959, in Dubuque, son of Nicholas L. and Ardell A. (Higley) Steffens. He was a 1978 graduate of Western Dubuque High School, Epworth.

He farmed on the family farm in rural Lattnerville. He was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church in Bankston.

Surviving are two children, Curt Steffen and Carrie Steffen, both of Dubuque; four grandchildren, Joseph Schollmeyer and Alex, Lucas and Hunter Steffen; four brothers, Robert Steffens, of Dubuque, John Steffens, of Durango, Tom (Cindy) Steffens, of Peosta, and Daniel (Laurie) Steffens, of Sherrill; and a sister, Sandra (Charles) Moreland, of Peosta.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Steffen.
