Joseph A. Hirsch, 82, of Ventura, Calif., formerly of Dubuque, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005.

Burial of the cremated remains will be held at a later date. The Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hirsch was a locksmith for Ventura County for 20 years.

He was born on July 12, 1923, in Dubuque, son of Joseph and Regina (Tigges) Hirsch. He married Irmgard Emmerich, of Munich, Germany, on July 19, 1950, in Munich.

He served in the Navy during World War II. He later joined the Air Force, retiring after 20 years of service.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, "Frankie;" and nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Leo, Carl, Ray, Alfred and Paul; and four sisters, Amelia Ehrlich, Estella Fessler, Helen Stoltz and Viola Hirsch.
