Elaine K. Heiring

Mrs. Ralph (Elaine K.) Heiring, 73, of 2611 New Haven St., Dubuque, formerly of Zwingle, Iowa, died at 6:03 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, following a sudden illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Dubuque, with the Rev. Mark Nemmers officiating. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a parish wake service at 3 p.m.

She was born on April 1, 1932, in Sherill, Iowa, daughter of Henry and Lena (Nauman) Wagner. She married Ralph A. Heiring on Feb. 23, 1953, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Dubuque.

She attended Immaculate Conception High School and the former Bayless Business College.

They farmed and owned the Short Stop in Zwingle, for many years. Mrs. Heiring also worked for the former Xavier Hospital, the Dubuque Museum of Art and lastly at Mount Carmel.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary society and was a former member of the Zwingle Community Club.

Elaine enjoyed playing cards and being in a card club, but mostly enjoyed being a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Surviving are her husband, Ralph; three children, Michael Heiring and Kathy (Jim) Runde, both of Dubuque, and Mary (Michael) Schmidt, of Maquo-keta, Iowa; six grandchildren, Tim, Michelle, and Adam Runde and Amanda, Alexa and Austin Schmidt; a brother, Trvin (Dorothy) Wagner, of Dubuque; twin sisters, Marcella (Chuck) Kessler and Marina Flood, both of Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister-in-law, Leta Wagner, of Dubuque; a brother-in-law, Ed Heiring; and sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Ward, Agnes Vorwald, Irene Zewen and Germaine March.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Louis, Herbert and Cyril (Sonny) Wagner; a sister, Eleanor Stecklein; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Lee.
