Jacob P. Bahl, 72, clerk of Dubuque township for more than 37 years and long active in Democratic party circles, died at 6 a.m. Tuesday at the family residence in Asbury (Dubuque Route 2) after an illness of six months. Friends may call at the family residence after 7 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be from the home to St. Philomena church, Asbury, Thursday morning, with the mass at 10. Burial will be in St. Philomena cemetery. The Didesch funeral home is in charge of arrangements. Born in Asbury Dec. 15, 1876, he was the son of Andrew and Mary Engler Bahl and a lifelong resident of the county. He was a member of St. Philomena church; the Holy Name society; the Dubuque County Farm Bureau, and was township clerk for 37 years. On April 6, 1904, he was married to Frances Tuel. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Frances Bahl; four sons, Lester, Vincent, Milton and Gilbert Bahl, all of Asbury; two daughters, Mrs. Fred (Thelma) Ehrlich, Dubuque, and Mrs. Thomas (Frances) McGrath, also of Dubuque; 20 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and one brother, Frank Bahl, Dubuque. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, one daughter, three brothers, and five sisters.
