Henry Bechtel Dies at Finley
Death Comes to Prominent Shoe Merchant Sunday

Henry C. Bechtel, 85, of 500 Finley street, retired shoe merchant, died late Sunday night at Finley hospital after several months illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Egelhof Funeral home, with the Rev. Gaylord Couchman, of Westminster Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial will be in Linwood cemetery.

Born Feb. 10, 1863, son of the late Justus and BArbara Bechtel, he was a lifetime resident of Dubuque. He operated a shoe store here for 35 years.

He was a member of Julien lodge 12 and Halcyon Encampment of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He was also a member of the Dubuque Traveling and Business Men's association since 1885. Surviving are one son, Henry L. Bechtel, of Dubuque; two grandchildren, Miss Dorothy Bechtel, of Dubuque, and William H. Bechtel, of Meridian, Miss., and one great grandchild, and a sister, Mrs. Emma Thurtell, of Holt, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elise; two brothers and three sisters.
