Obituary of Justus Bechtel The Dubuque Times-Journal
Oct 24, 1919
Death Summons Justus Bechtel, Pioneer Grocer
Death claimed Justus Bechtel Thursday afternoon at four o'clock at his residence 1457 White Street after several months of ill health. For the past three weeks he had been confined to his home.

The deceased was born in Dubuque Feb. 21, 1856 and was a member of the firm of Eichorn and Bechtel grocers. He began as a clerk in what was then known as Eichorn's grocery forty-five years ago and later became a member of the firm and had been engaged in that line of business every since. Mr. Bechtel was a quiet unassuming character always considerate of others and performing many charitable deeds in his own simple way. In his death Dubuque loses a worthy citizen who has been an honor to her name.

He is survived by his devoted wife; two sisters Mrs. A. Strienz and Emma Thurtell and two brothers George and Henry Bechtel all of Dubuque. The funeral will be held from his late residence 1456 White street Sunday afternoon at three o'clock. Interment will be made in Linwood.
