Mrs. Gertrude Jane Dietz Avenarius, 63, died at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday at Finley Hospital after a short illness. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Thursday at the Egelhof Funeral Home where services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Herman Senft will officiate. Burial will be in Asbury Cemetery.
Mrs. Avenarius was born Aug. 18, 1892, in Dubuque County, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Letitia Lewis Dieta. She lived in the Dubuque area all her life.
A practical nurse for many years, Mrs. Avenarius was a member of the Iowa Nursing Association. She also belonged to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church and the Women's Benefit Assn.
Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Lillian Dumm, Merced, Calif., and Mrs. Donald (Arlene) Licht, Dubuque; two sons, Clarence Weber, Joliet, Ill., and Arthur Avenarius, Platteville, Wis.; one sister, Mrs. Ida Cartigny, Dubuque; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
