Frank Avenarius Sr., 78, Rt. 1, died at 2:50 a.m. Tuesday at Finley Hospital after an extended illness.
Friends may call at the Haudenshield Funeral Home, 2170 Central Ave., where services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Herman Senft, of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.
Mr. Avenarius was born Jan. 8, 1878, in Dubuque County. He was a lifelong resident of the county and was employed as a gardener. He married the former Minnie Burdt on May 2, 1906. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Lorraine) Jungblut, Mrs. Arnold (Adele) Joos and Mrs. Don (Alice) Blakeman, all of Dubuque, Mrs. Harold (Eleanor) Buck, Rt. 1, and Mrs. Donald (Doris) Spoerl, Grants Pass, Ore.; three sons, Lloyd and Raymond Avenarius, both of Dubuque, and Frank Avenarius Jr., Rt. 2; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Carrie Gisel, Dubuque, and three brothers, Sam Avenarius, Rt. 1, and George and Arthur Avenarius, both of Dubuque.
