Sister Zita Simon, OP, died Jan. 5, 2021. Professed in 1965, she served in the laundry department and the culinary arts at the Motherhouse, Sinsinawa, WI, and in the culinary arts at St. Cecilia Convent, Omaha, NE, and Queen of Peace Convent, Burbank, IL. She then moved into the school classroom as teacher aide at St. Brendan, Chicago, and as teacher in the following schools: St. Richard, Omaha, NE; Holy Rosary, Oklahoma City, OK; Immaculate Conception, Tulsa, OK; St. Michael, South Sioux City, NE, where she was also principal; and St. Sabina, Chicago. Sr. Zita ventured north to Alaska and ministered in both pastoral care and as director of the Office of Ministry for the Diocese of Juneau and as pastoral minister and parish administrator at St. John by the Sea Parish, Klawock. She served as director of religious education and pastoral associate at Good Shepherd Parish, Madison, WI. Her lively banter and good fun as well as her listening ear and caring ways endeared her to many people. Sr. Zita lived zestfully. May she rest in peace. Click here to send a memorial online.
