Monday July 23, 1934 Dubuque Telegraph Herald in a column about people dying of the heat:
Michael Gira lived with his son-in-law, Michael Spautz, superintendent of Mount Calvary cemetery. He was born at Fels, Luxembourg, Europe, June 7, 1843. Survivors are one son, John, Chicago; one daughter, Mrs. Michael Spautz, Dubuque; 15 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren. His wife died in 1909.
The body is at the Spautz home. Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.
